Seldom does a book get my attention as deeply as Lisa  Gardner’s work “Fear Nothing” had managed to do. Absolutely chilling, and superbly written, Mrs. Gardener used a very unique approach to tell this tale, by switching between third and first person, giving us a unique insight into the thought process of a seemingly straightforward, yet interestingly complicated, main character named Dr. Adeine Glen.

From the outside, Dr. Glen is a very sophisticated, highly functioning adult with a rare genetic infliction – she can not feel pain. Yet she manages her day to day life well, even if, added to her already disabling disease, she has not one, but two serial killers in her family.

When another serial killer surfaces, she works together with Boston Detective D.D. Waren to catch this madman.

The twists and turns of this book left me breathless and rooting for people I thought at first as evil, every page a surprise. Even though this book is a part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone book, as I have done. But be warned, once you read one book by Lisa Gardner, you will want to come back for more.

(Disclaimer: This book was NOT given to me by a publisher, as some of my other books are, in return for an honest review. )

Book Review: Storm Front by Richard Castle

Title: Storm Front

Author: Richard Castle

Genre: Thriller/Mystery

Publisher: Kingswell

Rating: 4.5/ 5 Stars

From Tokyo, to Bonn, to London, high-level bankers are being tortured and murdered. The killer, caught in a fleeting glimpse on a surveillance camera, has been described as a psychopath with an eye patch. And that means Gregor Volkov, Derrick Storm’s old nemesis, has returned. Knowing only one man can match Volkov’s strength and cunning, the CIA calls on Storm to track him down, figure out who he’s working for and why. With the help of a beautiful and mysterious foreign agent, Storm discovers a plot that could destroy the global economy bringing with it untold chaos and the time he has to stop it is running short.

I am a fan of the show Castle and love the attitude that Nathan Fillion brings to the character, even if the storyline tends to be a little cheesy at times. But what intrigued me even more, is that someone took the time to write the books, that supposedly made Castle so famous, and created with that, actually enjoyable novels.

Storm Front, a spy thriller, is one of these books. Surprisingly well written, it is funny, tight and full of action, without losing the voice of Richard Castle, making it a story within a story, that is well worth diving into. At times a little too sarcastic and leaving me with the hint of the feeling that the writers of this book poked fun at the readers, I still enjoyed the novel, which reads like a well-crafted spy novel should. Full of twists, turns and romance, while always finding a way to make me chuckle in the most unexpected ways. I am glad I picked up this book, now I just wish, I could actually congratulate the person or persons who wrote this little gem, for a job well done.

Storm Front is available on Amazon now!

Night Sky

Night Sky

serene summer nights
darkness broken by the silver of the moon
carrying my dreams to you
resting in its glow
dreamy eyes turn heavy in the late hour
I allow my heart to fly afar
merging with you amongst sparkling stars

Finally an erotic romance that is not trying to imitate the 50 Shades of Grey. An enjoyable, steamy read, this book is an easy to devour novel for those who are looking for romance, but don’t mind the physical. Falling into one of the better books in the genre, this books only downfall is that it seemed a little rushed, but the characters are charming, the story line has not just action that contains itself in the bedroom, and it is sweet, with the happy ending every reader will be rooting for.
A hot book for a hot day.
