The reason I was interested in a book about studying abroad is because of my daughter. As a young person who is about to go to College, and with a European Mother ( I was born in Germany), she is very aware of the possibilities and opportunities of studying abroad.

Still, I was not informed enough about the details to help her make a well-researched decision if  she would decide to study out of the country, and help her to decide where that would be.

This guide is a great place to start getting the information needed to make these decisions.

Very well written, in a light conversational and entertaining tone, Girl Gone London’s book  is a quick and comfortable read filled with plenty of detailed information. For example, I did not know that it was difficult for a student from the US to open a bank account in the UK, a very important point that needs to be kept in mind when you are planning on staying for more than 6 months in the UK.

I am glad that I was given a copy of this book to review, and I handed it as soon as I was done reading it, to my daughter, convinced that she will be able to make a more informed decision about what her educational future will look like, and what possibilities​ she has from here on out.

I thank the Author for giving me this peace of mind.

A Tale Of Two Cities

Today’s Daily Prompt asked us to think of two cities, we would choose to split our time in, if we had to choose only two cities.

Those two cities for me are Los Angeles and London.

Los Angeles, the city of dreams, the city for dreamers, and also the city in which the most contacts and work is available in the industry all of my family members are working, or want to work in. Our business is based out of that town, our employee lives in a section of the beautiful patchwork of little towns that actually make LA. I have a daughter who wants to get into film and acting, a son who is beginning to design video games, and well, you know already, that I write – anything from film reviews to screenplays, to my Urban Fantasy Series “The World Walkers”.

Now to the second city:

London, because I think of it as hub, a place to start from to be able to connect with any part of Europe should be choose to, and they speak our language (duh – or do we speak theirs, that is probably a little more appropriate to say). It has the energy of New York, minus the attitude, the traditions I love about Europe, and the history that comes with it. From there we could take short travels to nearby Ireland, or hop over to France, revisit Barcelona, or my favorite vacation spot in the whole world, Lake Garda – think Northern Italy, beautiful, but large clear lake, mountains, and not too far away from Verona (second favorite vacation spot). It is far enough away from those of my past, whom I do not want to reconnect with, but close enough to reminisce in the parts of my European upbringing, which I cherish.
