10 Journal Prompts To Start Your Year Off Right

Positive habits, like writing in our journal are a powerful way to increase happiness, reduce anxiety and to create focus. But what to write on a daily basis? While I suggest to always make a gratitude  list  a part of your daily journal routine, it does not have to, and should not be limited to that aspect of journal writing.

I have combined some powerful prompts for you, which you can use to expand your journal writing practice

Because it is Friday, I am sharing with you, what I am grateful for this week:

1. A quiet and peaceful New Years eve. Surprisingly New Years in Las Vegas is tame compared to some other cities around the world I have been in. A pleasant surprise.

2. I met some really nice new neighbors. Very friendly people and my dogs seem to like them too.

3. There has been a lot more sunshine. Still cold, but at least, the sun is shining. I can deal with that.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Progress – More Than A Haiku

feels like standing still
yet I am fast enough to
arrive in due time

Sometimes it feels like there is no progress toward our goals, no matter how many actions we take. We wrote a few pages only to find out that we have to revise them all, from the ground up. Or worse, the entire day’s work had to be re-written. Those moments can bring you to the point of wanting to give up, yet we press on.

If we do not, if we allow this moment of defeat, the moment of what feels like a complete stand-still to actually bring us to a complete stop, we will never experience the truth of how close we were to succeed. Success is at the other end of those moments, the moments that feel motionless, and frustrating. We, as writers and artist need to remember that failures and temporary setbacks are not wasted time, they are still motion forward, even if only in lesson and experience. And we are indeed making progress, and it might be faster than we think.

Earth Day – A Haiku

Earth Day 2015 - A Haiku

Screaming frustration
a little too late to win
one day not enough

We dedicate one day — one stinking, single day — a year to take care of something that we should be taking care of every day. You might say, this is better than nothing, but in the big picture of it all, it is nothing. This day is simply an attempt to make ourselves feel better, to give ourselves a pad on the back for talking about our future and taking some action toward a better tomorrow for our planet.

But, I am frustrated because I know many, who will make up for that one day they actually did something for Mother Earth, by polluting it worse the next. Earth Day is fine in the classrooms, but in everyday life, every single day needs to become our Earth Day, and every day we need to do our best to lessen the damage we have done to the only place we ever will call home.
